Labo Design Studio was founded in 2001 by Raffaella Bortoluzzi.

Located in New York City, the firm designs residential, commercial and retail projects in the US and abroad, with a distinct architectural style and a rigorous approach to design and construction.

Labo believes in creating intelligent and responsive design. Through a fundamental inquiry process that seeks to identify and solve architectural challenges, Labo’s design language is inspired by a set of emotional alchemies made of unexpected choices and inventions.

Specialized materials and research result in highly sophisticated, unique creations. Warm, sumptuous, contemporary interiors characterize residential work, with living spaces enriched by singular details, to forge a particular atmosphere for every client. Retail projects are characterized by new materials, new building techniques and challenging exchanges with artists.

Raffaella Bortoluzzi’s approach interprets architecture as research and as narrative – a constant joining of episodes in a dialectical way – where disparate objects live together, and where materials and forms are carefully considered, adding a poetic and sometimes surreal dimension to the project.

Raffaella Bortoluzzi was born in Venice and obtained her Bachelor in Architecture at IUAV – Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia, Italy and her Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation in New York. After positions with Gluckman Mayner Architects and Rafael Viñoly, she established Labo Design Studio in 2001.
